APRIL 2009 NEWSLETTER

 LAND SALE

The NSW Government Cabinet has given the green light to the proposed North Hawks Nest development application,  which includes our land.  This now goes to the next stage of proceedings. So hopefully things will soon be happening.

NEW GENERAL MANAGER

The Board of Directors has appointed Stephen Cheater as the new General Manager. Stephen has worked in a number of clubs over the past 20 years. The last 4 being at Howlong Golf Club which has total membership of 5000.

The Board sees the appointment of Stephen as the way for the Club to move forward. He will commence on Monday 11th May, and will live in town.

The Board has decided not to replace the Operations Manager at this stage.

IRRIGATION SYSTEM

After a meeting on the 31st March between the Club. Mid-Coast Water and the installers of our new        irrigation system — Green Horticultural Group, we are able to report the following:-

1. Commencement date for construction will be Monday 20th April. Prior to this materials will start to arrive and a compound will be erected adjacent to the practice tee and the cart storage sheds.

2. The contractors will be working Monday to Friday, so weekend golf will not be affected. This will apply for the duration of the contract UNLESS long periods of inclement weather cause delays, in which case the contractor will be forced to work weekends to catch up.

3. For the first stage of installation play will not be restricted, i.e. All holes will be in play. This will apply for between 8 to 10 weeks. Naturally players will be allowed to drop away from any area affected by work.

4. The contractors have agreed not to work on the course during the Myall Classic and for the week commencing Monday 11th May as we have a large Corporate event scheduled. They will still be working in areas not affecting play.

5. As well as laying pipes, control cables, stations and installing sprinkler heads, a new pump shed and holding tank will be installed between the Greenkeeper’s sheds and the 9th green, i.e. in the area behind the dam.

6. During the installation period the Club, Mid-Coast Water & Green Horticultural Group will be meeting every Friday, when the following weeks schedule will be agreed upon. This will enable us to provide information to members regarding any affect the work will have on competitions.  In general only one hole will be affected at any time, but, as indicated above, this will be later in the installation period.

MEMBERS ARE REQUESTED NOT TO ENGAGE CONTRACT WORKERS IN CONVERSATION OR         INTERFERE WITH THEM WHILST THEY ARE WORKING. THIS INCLUDES STANDING CLOSE BY AND WATCHING WHAT THEY ARE DOING.

If anyone has a question regarding the project please see the Captain, Bob Morris or the President, Lee Rankin.

MYALL CLASSIC

This year’s Myall Classic commences on Wednesday 29th April. There are still some places left on the time sheets so put your name down.

The popular Dinner Dance is on Thursday 30th April and bookings are essential.

COURSE

The Prairie Grass Gardens will be trimmed as normal but will not be removed. The area to the left of the 12th tee will be replaced with native vegetation.

The new 11th tee behind the dam was a labour cost,

no materials were needed. It will only be used on Pro-Am days.

There are a number of different events in this year's fixture book. They will be closely monitored for popularity.

We now have a new local rule; Using the head of a

putter to recover a ball from the hole is prohibited  -  penalty for breach of rule is two(2) strokes.

ITEMS FROM INFORMATION MEETING

The Board agrees there is a need to retain the Courtesy Bus but is still looking at other options.

Internal Storage areas have been tidied up and will be monitored.

A Director will attempt to play with each new local member as soon as possible after joining the Club.  All new members will be invited to meet with the Board.

Concerns have been raised about the recent Toyota mailings trying to drum up business. This cost was borne entirely by Maitland Toyota. Richard and Daphne Frew organised the mailings.

All other suggestions will be passed on to the new General Manager for his consideration.
